“My cup overflows.” Psalm 23:5

O Thou, whose bounty fills my cup With every blessing meet! (...a hymn)

[words by Jane F. Crewdson (1860); music by William Gardiner]

O Thou, whose bounty fills my cup With every blessing meet!
I give Thee thanks for every drop— The bitter and the sweet.

I praise Thee for the desert road, And for the riverside;
For all Thy goodness hath bestowed, And all Thy grace denied.

I thank Thee for both smile and frown, And for the gain and loss;
I praise Thee for the future crown, And for the present cross.

I thank Thee for the wing of love, Which stirred my worldly nest;
And for the stormy clouds which drove The flutterer to Thy breast.

I bless Thee for the glad increase, And for the waning joy;
And for this strange, this settled peace, Which nothing can destroy.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were

called in the one body.  And be thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in

 you richly, teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, and sing psalms

   and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

 Colossians 3:15-16

A Note from Pastor Tony

Hey Brothers & Sisters in Christ!

  As I look back on the messages these past few Sundays, and look back on these past few months that I’ve been here, what I have to say comes easy.  We’ve been talking these past few Sundays about how much we have and how much we should be thankful.  Even when we think we always need more, compared to the rest of the world, we have so much. And so, we need to remember to give thanks not only on the designated holidays marked on our calendars, but each and every day.

  When Roxan and I first came to Chinchilla, we were thankful for the easier travel and a bit less gasoline consumption.  And we still are thankful for those things.  But as we got to know our new congregation, and continue to get to know all of you, we are thankful for the opportunity to worship, share in ministry, mission and fellowship with you, and enjoy our new found friendships here at Chinchilla.  Thank you for making us feel so welcome these past few months.  As we prepare to enter the season of Advent in just a few short weeks, the season of giving, we look forward to giving what we can of us, and working with you, to make Chinchilla UMC the best it can be, not only for us, but for our community.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

  Yours in Christ,

Pastor Tony

More from Pastor Tony...

     The United Methodist Church of Chinchilla is gearing up for many special holiday events. The sanctuary and Fellowship Hall will be the scenes for a wide variety of activities, from dinner theater, to a children’s craft day, to family activities, to Advent and Christmas events.

     These fun-filled activities aren’t just for church members;  People from the community and beyond are welcome to help decorate the church, enjoy the entertainment, food, and fun, and begin to feel the Christmas spirit!”

      Here’s what’s in church this holiday season:

Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, Children’s Holiday Craft Day, 1 to 3 p.m.:

Children of all ages are invited to attend a Chrismon Making Craft Day in Fellowship Hall. Chrismons are Christian shapes and symbols, such as the cross, manger, and star, made out of Styrofoam, glitter, and other materials to hang on Christmas trees. Children will make Chrismons to decorate the church’s trees, as well as one to take home for their own tree. The decorations will be hung during the "Hanging of the Greens" celebration on Nov. 29.  Call Roxan Schwartz at 647-8398 if you’d like to attend this craft day.

Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, Mystery Dinner Theater, doors open at 6 p.m., dinner served at 6:30 p.m., show follows:

The award winning Lakeside Players will perform their “I Love Lucy” spoof, “Trouble at the Tropicabana,” in Fellowship Hall. You’ll meet Lucy, Ricky, Fred, Ethel, and other zany characters and try to solve a crime. The first people to guess the murderer and motive will win a prize! Tickets are $20/person for dinner and show. Entrée choices are seafood combo or lemon chicken. Call 587-2578 to make reservations.

Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, Hanging of the Greens, 5 p.m.:

All are invited to attend this festive evening that begins with a covered dish dinner in Fellowship Hall. Then the fun move upstairs, where everyone helps decorate the sanctuary for the holiday season. The evening also includes caroling, special music, comedy skits, and more.

Sundays, Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 14, and Dec, 21, 2008, at 10 a.m., and Wednesday, Dec. 24,  2008, at 7 p.m.:

Pastor Tony’s sermons this Advent season will explore the senses of sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch in relation to the holiday season. He will discuss what the five senses mean today and what they meant to people 2,000 years ago. Each of these informative messages will contain a surprise or two!

Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008: Christmas Party, 6 p.m.:

The Christmas party is still in the planning stages, but there will be a catered meal, some special music, and plenty of time for dancing, fun, and fellowship.

Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, 7 p.m.:

This service will be held in the sanctuary. It’s a wonderful opportunity to worship together as a church family, once again celebrating the birth of the Christ Child.

     We hope you and your family and friends will join us for one or more of these opportunities to worship and fellowship together!

To be held at Clarks Summit UMC

Mission News

Our church provided dinner for the Scranton Rescue Mission (SRM) on September 28th.

The group of people from Chinchilla UMC who prepared and served dinner at the Scranton Rescue Mission,
were surprised with about 33 additional mouths to feed than expected.  The usual amount is about 60 people, but
on Sunday, 9/28, they served 93 men, women and children (14) !!!   The team expressed their gratitude to God for
nudging them beforehand to make a 'few extra meatloaves' and 'extra brownies'.   During the meal, they still were not
certain that they would have enough food, as the line stretched around the building.  Thankfully, it turned out okay...
Jean said it was like the multiplying of the fish and bread.  Somehow everyone got feed, (except for the team from
Chinchilla).  But none-the-less, they were so grateful they had enough to feed the hungry!  Thanks be to God

If you are  interested in helping with this effort in the future, please contact Harry or Jean Lynch @ 587-2832.

Ways to help:

  • provide a food item, like a dessert

  • donate your time to help prepare & serve the food

  • donate money to defray the costs

   This mission is what gives life and purpose to our church

and is a perfect opportunity to do God's work on earth.

Mystery Dinner Theater Show

     Take a walk down memory lane with Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel when The Chinchilla United Methodist Church present “Trouble at the Tropicabana“, a mystery dinner theater show spoofing the “I Love Lucy” show, by Tony Schwartz and Marylou Ambrose. The curtain rises on Saturday, November 22nd at The Chinchilla United Methodist Church. Proceeds from the dinner theater event will benefit the church.

     What can you expect from a mystery dinner theater event? Fun the minute you walk in the door! Doors open at 6:00PM.  At 6:30PM, you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner of your choice of Seafood Combo or Lemon Chicken.  The show starts after dinner, at around 7:30PM.

     The action takes place in Lucy and Ricky’s living room; then switches to Ricky’s club, the Tropicabana. You’ll hear Ricky sing some Latin favorites, see the Cabana girls dance, join in the conga line, and take mambo lessons. Besides Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel, you’ll meet movie mogul heiress Celia B. DeMilo; Mr. Big, a notorious gangster; and Ricky’s cousin Rosita, an illegal alien. Will Ricky sign a movie contract? Is Celia who she claims to be? Will Lucy and Ethel ruin Ricky’s big chance with another harebrained scheme to get into show business? What’s the escaped convict Mr. Big doing at Ricky’s club? How do the Cabana girls keep those fruit baskets on their heads? And who committed the murder? The murder? That’s right - the murder! Someone will be ruthlessly murdered at the end of the show, and it’s up to you to solve the crime! Prizes will be awarded to the first people to correctly guess both the murderer and the motive.

     Tickets for the dinner and show are $20. Due to limited seating, advance reservations are required and will be accepted up until November 14th; please specify your dinner choice (Seafood Combo or Lemon Chicken) at that time. For information and reservations, please call Kelly at 341-6738.

Love Tree

Lynn Desanto will once again be organizing the Love Tree, which is a Mission project that provides for the needy.

It works like this: The Salvation Army provides Lynn with tags which have 'Christmas wishes' on them.  The congregation takes a tag or two and buys the item and returns the gift to the church and places it under the Love Tree in the Sanctuary.  Then Lynn, Jerry and Jeff Desanto  will deliver the presents.

????      Is it ".COM" or ".ORG"    ????

Okay, you see it different places with a different extension. The reason?

It is accessible with either .com or .org, because William Kerber was insightful enough to purchase both domain names,

link them so they both refer to one single address, all knowing that it is a common folly for people to enter it .com or .org.

So there is the answer!

   Our church website is: www.chinchillaumc.org but www.chinchillaumc.com works also.
